The Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai (CanCham Shanghai) is the organizational representation of the Canadian business community in eastern China. With a large mandate, we host events, organize government receptions, put together trade delegations, and provide every-day corporate assistance to member organizations that are navigating their way through the Canada-China economic relationship – be that Canadian corporate expansion to China or Chinese outreach to Canada.

Deputy Director

Reports to:
Executive director (ED), CanCham

Position Summary:

The purpose of this position is to support the executive director in the development and implementation of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce strategic plan, and to provide leadership and direction to the executive staff for CanCham daily’s operation. The deputy director will have both internal and external responsibilities such as business development with a focus in membership acquirement and retention and thus will work closely with the Membership Manager in meeting targets.

Responsibilities:
Deputy 70%
• Work closely with the ED to support all CanCham’s internal activities (administration, human resources, and organizational planning)
• Act as a full delegate authority to act on behalf of the Executive Director in abstentia
• Work with the ED to develop and execute CanCham’s strategy
• Represent CanCham in Conferences and public events when the Executive director is unable to attend
• Support Cancham’s executive team to achieve their respective targets
• Work to improve internal operations to support CanCham’s future growth within budget
• Provide input, as requested by the ED, for program activities and events such as staff’s tasks coordination, partnership development, marketing, and issues management
• Assisting in the creation of Chamber events and publications

Membership 30%
• Build and maintain a strong relationship with CanCham’s members, contribute to members retention, and attract new members
• Work closely with the Membership Manager in meeting targets and act on behalf in abstentia
• Initiate business development strategies to develop/maintain member relations and secure sponsorship
• Ad-hoc projects

Desired Profile:
•A minimum of 5 years experience in similar position or duties;
•Ability to manage a team;
•Language skills in English with a knowledge of Chinese and French preferred;
•Flexibility in work hours including extra-hours;
